After 35 years of making fine furniture Boranup gallery whilst still remaining open will cease its fine furniture producing operations.

This is great for budding wood enthusiasts and industry players as the extensive inventory of furniture grade speciality timbers is now for sale. Timber all purchased through the FPC log contract, one of 3 that was awarded to members of the fine woodworking association back in 2005. This contract meant by state law the oldest and best logs earmarked for milling by the FPC had to be offered to the owners of those contracts first.

A fine example of these wonderful logs we had first dibbs on.

This timber being auctioned, Jarrah , blackbutt and Marri comes from the largest logs ever offered in the last two decades, stunning timber and a one of opportunity now to purchase what truly was old growth logs.

Today the logs offered for sale by the FPC are less than a quarter the size of those purchased back in the day. This auction includes 60mm 18 year old slabs of Jarrah and marri up to 1.7m wide and some of the nicest blackbutt boards and slabs that have ever come out of the south west.

At $500 an hour for the mill and $12,000 for a semi load it was always a relief when the slabs came off with no major defects.

After air drying for 5 years the timber is loaded into our kiln for final drying, another 6 month proccess.

During the kiln drying proccess the the moisture content is precisely monitored.

There was often a call to laminate thinner panels onto a substrate whether it be MDF or solid timber for drawer fronts and feature panels.

By resining these onto the substrate and pressing by either vaccuum press or traditional press, this one operation flattened, filled and laminated these 6mm burl slices that then just need sanding before incorporating them into projects.
